Mindy Christianson, M.D., Associate Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics, was born in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with undergraduate and medical degrees. She completed her Gynecology and Obstetrics (OB/Gyn) residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She recently joined the faculty after completing fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Christianson has an active clinical practice in infertility, reproductive endocrinology and reproductive surgery. Her clinical areas of expertise include in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other fertility treatments, fertility preservation for cancer patients, and surgical treatment of reproductive issues such as uterine fibroids and endometriosis. She also sees patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, premature ovarian failure and those experiencing severe menopause symptoms.
Her primary research interest is fertility preservation for females undergoing gonadotoxic treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation prior to cancer treatment. She has extensive experience in helping females preserve their fertility via embryo, oocyte or ovarian tissue cryopreservation. She is currently working with Dr. Jeffrey Lukish in Pediatric Surgery on an innovative project involving ovarian tissue cryopreservation for young girls with cancer. She has been awarded a Research Fellowship Award in Fertility Preservation Options from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. She has also received international recognition for her research examining the experience of young breast cancer patients regarding fertility preservation.
Dr. Christianson has recently been accepted into the CREST Program (Clinical Research/Reproductive Scientist Training) sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the Clinical Research Training Program at Duke University, and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She is also very active in teaching and helped develop a formal curriculum for OB/Gyn residents in menopause medicine with Dr. Wen Shen. In 2011 she received the New Researcher Award from the North American Menopause Society for her needs assessment of American OB/Gyn residents regarding menopause education.
